Abstract: Coding can be creative and fun!

Algorithmic or generative art is a growing field. Many artists are starting to explore coding, algorithms and data as the key element of their work.

This talk will introduce Processing, a framework designed to make creating visual art easy, including for first-time coders. Processing is taught in leading art and design schools, and is popular with children too.

This talk will start right at the beginning, and assume no previous coding experience. We'll introduce the basics of drawing shapes, using colour, and then introduce ideas such as randomness, repetition, reusing code, colour theory, and recursion.

We'll use the Python version of Processing for this talk, but also look at a pure web version which needs to software to be installed.

This talk will be suitable for beginners, first-time and young coders too. Bring a laptop and follow along with the talk.
