Abstract: The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) is an international institution that provides among the best global weather predictions. ECMWF produces terabytes of data every day and serves hundreds of petabytes of data from its archives. They also maintain a lot of dedicated tools to manage and process climate data and have a long history of providing them as Open Source.

In the last three years we worked closely with ECMWF in order to define their Python strategy and to integrate their tools into the Python scientific ecosystem.

In this talk we will present what we learned from helping a international institution moving to Python and Open Development.
