Type: Talk

Abstract: As a member of the board of directors of the Python Software Foundation, Marlene will be introducing the audience to the PSF and the role it plays in stregnthening the Python community. The mission of the Python Software Foundation is to promote, protect, and advance the Python programming language, and to support and facilitate the growth of a diverse and international community of Python programmers. She will be sharing how, in accordance to this mission, the PSF supports Python developers and invites them to be an active part of a global community.

Marlene will also be sharing how the PSF has been instrumental in aiding the growth of Python in Africa. She will do this by using grant distribution as a means to measure the evolution and growth of the Python community in Africa. Through her own experience establishing an organization whose primary focus is to bring Python programming to girls in underserved areas of Zimbabwe she will be highlighting the immense impact Pythonista’s can have on their communities, as well as the challenges unique to an African setting. She will end by providing practical ways that Pythonista's from around the world, Italy included, can participate in accelerating this growth.
